The novel Heidi was written as a book “for children and those who love children,” as quoted from the subtitle. According to Wikipedia, it is one of the best-selling books ever written and is among the best-known works of Swiss literature. It was one of my favorite childhood books, and many people of my generation and earlier loved it as well. It is much less well-known now, but the novel deserves the popularity it once enjoyed. There have been many adaptations of the story for film, television and stage; however, the ones I’ve seen present a different spiritual message from that of the novel. In this play I’ve tried to convey accurately the spiritual message of the book.
